Pay it forward

March 30, 2020

Resulting from my meditations towards living in the gift, while on a San Pedro journey, this piece is specifically about the kind of perspective we could develop when charging our clients for a product or service.

As entrepreneurs we often fall into the trap of undercharging our customers and clients in pursuit of giving greater value; discounting ourselves because we can take it on.

Unfortunately, this is not recognising the big picture.

What you sell is already stocked, prepared or delivered when payment is received. Thanks to your investment, they receive your gift.
However, if your sacrifice is worthy, asking them to pay it forward allows you to carry on giving to the next person. Make it clear to them can turn the tide when you detach yourself from the price.

That is why we consider the new framing of paying it forward. On one hand you want to receive enough money so that you can continue on bringing the gift you chose to offer, but also because they have a role to play in spreading the change they wished for themselves.
